First Aid for Mental Health Training Courses

We offer First Aid for Mental Health courses in Hull, Lincolnshire, Driffield, Beverley and the East Riding of Yorkshire. We can also deliver these courses online or in your own business premises.

Having trained Mental Health First Aiders in your business can improve the mental health of your employees, and therefore significantly reduce costs and the number of sick days taken.

According to work related mental health statistics 2017/18:

595,000 workers suffered from work related stress, depression or anxiety.

15.4 million days lost due to work related stress, depression or anxiety.

Working days lost due to stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 57% of all working days lost due to ill health.

The main cause of work related stress, depression or anxiety was due to workload, and accounted for 44% of all cases.

From the Stevenson/Farmer Review - October 2017

Management mental health training could lead to a significant reduction in work related sickness, with an associated return on investment of £9.98 for every pound spent.

Not supporting mental health in the workforce could have an impact on staff turnover. This leads to costs of recruitment and making the new staff members fully effective.

"Pete from Jewel Safety has completed training at level 2 and 3 for around 30 staff, the training has been invaluable. Following the training we have made some changes to the department, changed our policy and feel better equipped to spot signs of mental health problems for our staff and our learners. I would recommend that all companies complete this training"

I have taken away from both courses a better understanding and improved awareness of Mental Health, not only in work but in and around my own life too. Pete is honest, open and delivers the course in a personal, professional and relevant way. I would encourage anyone to improve their awareness of Mental Health through these courses. These are Skills for Life not just the workplace."

Nigel Palmer

Warehouse Manager

SMS Towage-Hull

"In my capacity as Warehouse Manager, I was asked by my employer to attend a training course on First Aid for Mental Health. I come into contact with a number of colleagues across the business on a daily basis. I feel it is important to have representatives in the workplace who can help people through problems, who are trained to be there for others in a supportive capacity to listen and care, not be judgemental, but offer real front line support and signposting and its morally the right thing to do and rewarding. I have had a number of tragedies in my private life and know this can easily affect your professional life and escalate, so I know how important it is to have someone looking out for you.

The training through Jewel Health and Safety Limited and delivered locally by Peter Kenningham, was extremely interesting and thought provoking, the learning was varied and very interactive and thorough and the skills and techniques learned invaluable. I feel equipped to support my colleagues in the workplace and to observe those around me more closely. The benefits for me include having a number of First Aiders for Mental Health colleagues, who also attended with me, in and around the business so we can support each other. Finally if that is not enough, the training was funded so it is truly within the reach of all. Highly recommended *****"
